Assassin's Creed Introduces Surprising Attack on Titan Event for Holiday Season

In a unexpected partnership that breaks usual forecasts, Ubisoft has unveiled an digital collaboration between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the acclaimed anime series Attack on Titan. The surprising holiday event runs from November 25 through December 22, offering complimentary extra story content for Shadows players.

Strange Questline Revealed

According to the authorized release, "An unusual meeting draws heroes Naoe and Yasuke into a fresh mission, where whispers of banned practices and fearsome transformations echo through the darkness." The narrative presents a "oddly attired woman named Ada" who tasks the characters with journeying into the Crystal Cave—a key location from Attack on Titan—to save her companion from a clandestine group.

The adventure focuses on "bizarre experiments and a terrifying enemy" and is accessible to all players who have acquired the Yasuke character.

Recognizable Settings and Transformations

The preview showcases the Subterranean Sanctuary from Attack on Titan recreated as the Crystal Cave. This significant location was previously where the Reiss royal family passed down the Founding Titan ability through generations. The teaser finishes with a striking scene showing a character, presumably the captive, transforming into a Titan that looms over Naoe and Yasuke.

Special Items and Additional Features

Players who accomplish the quest will receive an unique katana in addition to multiple items secreted throughout the area in hidden chests. The update also contains purchasable Attack on Titan item packs, including:

  • Titan-themed attire for Yasuke
  • Mikasa attire for Naoe
  • Exclusive weapons
  • Survey Corps steed

Latest Free Story Content

This patch also brings the game's third free story episode, titled "A Puzzlement." This lighthearted mission partners Naoe and Yasuke as they swap distinctive skills: Naoe debuts a performative variation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke learns non-lethal stealth takedowns. True to its name, "A Puzzlement" also features a original environmental puzzle that may ultimately explain some unresolved questions from the main storyline.

Past Japanese Animation Crossovers

This marks not the first time the Assassin's Creed franchise has partnered with popular anime properties. The series earlier included a 2020 crossover story uniting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Additionally, Valhalla informally featured a quest that obviously referenced the famous series One-Punch Man.
